Kyle M. Smith was born in Houston, Texas in 1979. He
attended Baylor University in Waco, Texas on a Provost’s
Scholarship until he earned his Bachelor of Arts Degree in
History in 2002. While at Baylor, Mr. Smith was on
the varsity cross country and track & field teams, a
member of the Delta Tau Delta Fraternity, and was an officer
in the Baylor University Intrafraternity Council.
After graduating
from Baylor, Mr. Smith relocated to Lansing, Michigan to
attend Thomas M. Cooley Law School. In
his first year at Cooley, he obtained the thirteenth highest
GPA of the 586 people in his incoming class, was on the Dean’s
List and Honor Roll both semesters he attended, and received
the Certificate of Merit for earning the highest grade in
his Criminal Procedure class.
In 2004, Mr. Smith transferred
to the University of Houston Law Center in Houston, Texas. In
addition to his core classes, Mr. Smith actively participated
in the Judicial Internship Program. Through this program,
Mr. Smith had the opportunity to clerk for Fifth Circuit
Court of Appeals Justice Jennifer W. Elrod when she presided
over the 190th District Court.
After taking the bar exam in August of 2006,
Mr. Smith participated in the University of Houston Public
Interest Fellowship Program. In
his tenure with the fellowship program, he worked with Lone
Star Legal Aid in Galveston, Texas where he provided pro
bono legal services to victims of Hurricane Katrina, Hurricane
Rita, and low income residents along the Gulf Coast Region
of Texas.
Before joining Killeen & Stern, Mr. Smith worked
for a well-known Galveston personal injury law firm. Mr.
Smith primarily focuses his practice in litigation and has
experience in maritime, breach of contract, real property,
auto accident, wrongful death, premise liability, and industrial
plant accidents.
